Bank account and bills (electricity, water, internet)

Open an account, then put electricity (CEB), water (CWA) and internet in your name.

Checked 2026-106 steps
  1. Open a bank account

Choose a bank licensed by the Bank of Mauritius. Bring your passport, residence or work permit, proof of address and proof of income; each bank sets its own requirements to be confirmed with the bank.

  2. Electricity: open a CEB account

CEB accounts cannot be transferred: the previous holder closes theirs and you apply for a new supply (in person, in writing or via customerservice@ceb.mu) with ID and a lease or landlord's authorisation. A residual current device (RCD) is mandatory; a connection fee and deposit apply.

  3. Water: contact the CWA

For a home already connected, request a transfer of name with ID, a lease or landlord's authorisation and a CWA bill. A new connection requires a title deed or authorisation, a site plan and processing and installation fees.

  4. Internet and phone

The main operators (including Mauritius Telecom/my.t and Emtel) offer fibre and mobile plans; compare offers and coverage in your area. If a dispute with the operator is not resolved, complain to the ICTA.

  5. Pay your bills

CEB and CWA accept direct debit, internet banking (including MCB/Juice), SBM Bill Pay at ATMs, mobile money, post offices and cash offices; CWA also has an online portal (pay.cwa.mu).

  6. Useful numbers

CEB power faults: 130 (24/7). CWA: 601 5000. Register on the CEB customer portal (csp.ceb.mu) to follow your bills.
