Islands and islets of Mauritius
According to the National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS), 49 islets surround mainland Mauritius: 7 are proclaimed Nature Reserves and 8 form the Islets National Park (plus Île de la Passe, an Ancient Monument).
The 16 protected islets (8 national park, 7 nature reserves, 1 ancient monument) total 735 ha; the park includes lagoon and sea up to 1 km around its 8 islets (about 36 km²). Source
Coin de Mire
Basaltic islet of about 76 ha, some 8 km off the north coast, one of the five northern islets. A nature reserve; introduced rats were eradicated in 1995 under a rehabilitation programme started in 1993.
Île Plate
The largest northern islet (about 253 ha). A 19th-century quarantine station (buildings erected 1856–1870, now ruined); a lighthouse was built in 1855. Separated from Îlot Gabriel by a narrow lagoon rich in marine life.
Îlot Gabriel
Small flat islet (about 42 ha) with coastal sand-dune vegetation. Much of it is covered by 'Baume de l'Île Plate', a plant found nowhere else; black rats were eradicated in 1995.
Rocher aux Pigeons
A volcanic plug rising vertically from the sea north of Flat Island, a seabird habitat. The only place in the Flat/Gabriel area where the gecko Nactus coindemirensis occurs.
Île Ronde
Volcanic tuff islet about 22.5 km north of Mauritius, of exceptional biological importance. The only known Indian Ocean breeding site of the Round Island petrel; goats (1979) and rabbits (1986) were eradicated.
Île aux Serpents
The most remote northern islet: a steep dome about 162 m high with almost no vegetation. An important seabird colony (sooty terns, noddies); despite its name, it has no snakes.
Île d'Ambre
A 128 ha islet north-east of Mauritius, the largest in the Islets National Park. Though degraded, it still has blue latan palms and mangrove forests. The Saint-Géran was wrecked on its reef in 1744.
Îlot Bernache

Îlot Matapan
Small north-east coast islet (Rivière du Rempart district), listed by NPCS among the 49 islets.
Île aux Cerfs
Privately owned east-coast island, about five minutes by boat from Trou d'Eau Douce. It hosts a golf course designed by Bernhard Langer.
Île de l'Est (Mangénie)
East-coast islet north of Île aux Cerfs. NPCS lists it as 'Île de l'Est or Mangénie'.

Îlot Vacoas
A 1.36 ha islet in Grand Port bay near Île de la Passe. Historically linked to the bay's defences and the scene of the Battle of Grand Port (1810).
Île de la Passe
A fortified rocky islet guarding the entrance to Grand Port bay, armed with a battery. Taken by the British on 13 August 1810, it was central to the Battle of Grand Port (20–27 August 1810), often described as France's only Napoleonic-era naval victory over the Royal Navy. Its buildings are being preserved.
Île aux Fouquets
A 2.49 ha islet in Grand Port bay, known as 'Île au Phare' for its lighthouse built in 1864, now in ruins. Historically important for the defence of Mahébourg bay.
Île aux Aigrettes
A 26 ha coral islet about 850 m off the south-east coast, holding the last remnants of Mauritius's dry coastal forest. A nature reserve since 1965, restored by MWF since 1985 with rare species reintroduced.
