How to read the conditions
Go wind in the right direction and strength for the chosen sport.
Maybe rideable for some: light, strong or slightly off-direction wind.
No not advised: too much wind, onshore wind for surfing, or offshore wind pushing out to sea.
Rules of thumb: kiting from about 13 knots, ideal 15 to 25; paddle and kayak under 8 knots. Kite season runs May to November, when the south-east trade wind is steadiest; the south-west swell of the southern winter powers the west-coast waves (Tamarin, One Eye, Manawa).
Model wind (MET Norway), which can differ from the real wind: Le Morne often speeds up the trade wind. We don't forecast swell: for surfing, also check a wave forecast. Respect swimming zones and schools. Updated : 10:02.
