Piton Savanne
Piton Savanne (704 m) overlooks the south coast from the edge of Black River Gorges National Park. The well-made path crosses upland heath and pink pigeon habitat before a short final climb to the summit, easy to spot thanks to its mast. The ascent is modest, making it one of the island's most accessible summit hikes and suitable for families. From the top, the view stretches over the southern cane fields, the lagoon from Souillac to Bel Ombre and the forested ridges of the gorges.
No warning in force. Rain forecast on the plateau: 1.5 mm over 24 h.
There's no official real-time information: the park can close without notice after heavy rain. Call before you go.
No GPX track yet: the pin shows the start (or summit, see “Start”).
