Useful government e-services

E-services portal, online certificate of character, civil status, ID card and public complaints.

Checked 2026-106 steps
  1. Start with the government portal

The govmu.org portal lists government e-services (learner driving licence, driving test payment, etc.) and each department's website.

  2. Certificate of character online

Since February 2023, citizens and foreigners can apply for a Certificate of Character online, paying by card. Create an account on the portal and follow the list of required documents.

  3. Civil status certificates

Birth, marriage and death certificates are issued by the Civil Status Division (Port Louis). Online requests for copies may be available to be confirmed on the CSD website; otherwise visit a civil status office.

  4. ID card and passport

The national ID card is handled by the Mauritius National Identity Card Unit; passports, visas and extensions of stay by the Passport and Immigration Office. Visa extensions are free, but overstaying is an offence.

  5. Tax and business

Tax matters are handled on the MRA portal; company registration and searches through the Corporate and Business Registration Department.

  6. Report a public-service problem

The Citizen Support Portal lets you submit a complaint or suggestion about a public service and track its progress.
