Before you fly: entering Mauritius
Passport, visa, All-in-One form, money, plugs and driving side: what to sort out before your flight.
Check your passport
Your passport must remain valid beyond your planned departure date from Mauritius and have at least one blank page. A passport reported lost or stolen will be refused at the border.
Check whether you need a visa
Many nationalities (including EU countries) are visa-exempt; the length of stay is decided by the immigration officer on arrival and stamped in your passport. Check the Passport and Immigration Office 'Visa Requirements' page for your nationality; if you do need a visa, apply before travelling through a Mauritian mission.
Have arrival documents ready
Immigration may ask for a return or onward ticket, a confirmed accommodation booking (or a host), and proof of sufficient funds. Paid work is not allowed as a visitor.
Complete the All-in-One form
Fill in the 'Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form' online (safemauritius.govmu.org) before departure; the US State Department says to do it within 72 hours before arrival. Keep the QR code (printed or on your phone); otherwise you will fill in a disembarkation card at the airport.
Check current health restrictions
In 2026 Mauritius barred foreign nationals who had recently been in certain Ebola-affected countries, and it requires yellow fever vaccination if you arrive from a country with transmission risk. Check your government's travel advice just before you leave.
Money: Mauritian rupee (MUR)
The currency is the Mauritian rupee; ATMs at the airport and in tourist areas dispense rupees and Visa/Mastercard are widely accepted. Cash above MUR 500,000 must be declared on entry and exit (declaration can be made online with the MRA).
Plugs and driving side
Mains power is 230 V; sockets are type C (European) and type G (British), so bring an adapter. Traffic drives on the left.
Customs and medicines
Drug laws are very strict and some prescription medicines are banned; carry the prescription for any medication and pack your own bags. Cigarette papers are also prohibited.
